Best Tablets For Elderly Users 2014

best tablets for elderly users 2014
Tablets make great gifts for senior citizens. I got one for my mother-in-law recently - and she loved it. We got her a Kindle Fire, which has Amazon's easy to use carousel type interface.

I know it's not to everyone's taste - but it's very simple to find your way around, which makes it ideal for an elderly relative who might not be all that computer savvy.

The fact is that all of the best tablets on the market today are pretty user friendly and, if you're thinking of getting one as a gift for an elderly family member, they'll probably get the hang of it pretty quickly.

If in doubt, go with one of the new Kindle Fire offerings which has the 24 hour live help - Mayday they call it. That should put your mind at ease - and save you from fielding too many technical questions at the same time.

However, just about any of the top tablets will do very well thank you. I think that the 7" versions are best. They're light and easy to hold, and portable too. However, if your gift recipient has very poor eyesight, then a larger tablet might not be a bad idea.

Here's a list of some of the best tablets for elderly users 2014:

Nexus 7 Versus Kindle Fire HDX

If you're in the market for a tablet computer, but the iPad isn't your cup of tea, then you might want to check out the Kindle Fire HDX from Amazon and the Nexus 7 from Google (Asus).

These are two of the very best 7" tablets currently available - and they cost a fraction of the equivalent iPad price.

Each tablet has its own advantages and will appeal to different user requirements. Check out how they compare against each other below before you decide which one is the right tablet for you.

Top Tablet Computers 2014

Tablet Computers Will Make Up More Than Half of All Computer Sales In 2014

It's estimated that tablet computers will account for more than 50% of computer sales in 2014. That's pretty impressive - especially when you consider that, until Apple launched the iPad, as recently as 2010, tablet computers hadn't even been heard of.

Tablets are big business - and market dominance is more important than ever. Which will be the best selling tablets in 2014?

I predict that Apple will remain as king of the castle, but that both Amazon and Google (Asus if you prefer) will make further significant inroads into the market. Other tablet choices are, quite frankly, only for the truly contrary.

Here's a quick look at what I believe will be the most significant tablets in 2014. Click to view.

Kindle Fire Covers For Kids

Kids love tablet computers - but you'll want to keep them safe from bumps, knocks and spills.

Fortunately, there are plenty of specially designed covers for tablets which will keep them well protected when young kids are playing with them.

Some of them even have special designs - cartoon characters and such - which will make the kid's fun even greater!

Which Type of Tablet Is Best For Kids

Choosing A Tablet Computer For Kids

Tablet computers are a great choice for children. They are easy to use, fun and educational. Kids just love them - and the price has fallen a lot recently.

In fact, the price of tablets has fallen to the point where standard tablets, the entry level models at any rate, are about the same price as the "learning tablets" which are specially designed for kids.

Both types have their advantages and disadvantages - but personally speaking, I think I would go for a low end standard tablet rather than the toy version. They are more versatile, faster - and they can be shared with other, older family members.

They are pretty robust devices - gorilla glass is pretty tough - and you can get plenty of strong cases to protect your tablet from a little rough treatment.

Here's a quick power point presentation that I put together to look at the differences between the two types of device. Use the arrow buttons to move from one page to another.

Whichever option you choose, tablet computers are ideal for kids. They are a great way for them to learn and have fun at the same time - and lower prices make them an economical gift option.

Tablet Computers For Seniors And Kids

Kindle Fire HD for seniors and children
A few months ago, my wife and I got my mother-in-law (she's 75) a Kindle Fire HD tablet computer for her birthday. I appreciate that it may not seem like the most obvious choice of gift for a senior citizen - but she absolutely loved it!

She uses it all the time. She's on Facebook and a variety of other social sites. She watches videos and listens to music and generally has a good time surfing the web.

We had thought about it and guessed that the incredible ease of use of tablet computers would make it a good gift for her - and that she would use it to stay in touch with family and friends.

Turns out we were right, although it was a bit of a gamble and we were holding our breath just a little when she was unwrapping it.

It wasn't until a little later when I watched my mother-in-law and my two nieces, aged 4 and 6, huddled around a tablet playing a game of some kind, that I  realized these devices are great for all age groups. My nieces both have Kindle Fire tablets - and, just like my mother-in-law, they absolutely love them.

The user friendly interface and intuitive touch screen controls make tablet computers absolutely ideal for all age groups. It's no wonder that they're so popular these days!

So, if you're looking for a gift for an elderly relative, give tablet computers for seniors a little thought.
